Agricultural Economics department started its undergraduate education in 1983-1984 academic year. It continues its graduate education under the umbrella of Agricultural Economics Department. 780 undergraduate students, 153 graduate students and 31 doctoral students have graduated from the beginning of their undergraduate education until the 2019-2020 academic year. Agricultural Economics is a branch of science that looks for solutions to agricultural problems by using the basic principles of economics. Agricultural Economist has to know issues like; both the technical issues of agriculture such as field crops, horticulture, animal husbandry and agricultural products evaluation, and the economy planning, management, financing, accounting, business administration, marketing, agricultural policy, agricultural law, entrepreneurial economy, rural sociology, rural development, rural industry and agricultural publication. In addition, Agricultural Economists are concerned with the plans and programs implemented by the government in order to improve the agricultural sector, improve the life level of farmers and protect consumers from excessive price increases, and increase the export of agricultural products.

Students who graduated from Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Economics Program, having the ability to use knowledge of mathematics, basic sciences and engineering in the field of Agricultural Economics, having adequate knowledge and awareness on issues such as technological developments, food safety, sustainable agriculture, natural resources and environmental protection, having an entrepreneurial spirit, having basic infrastructure and sufficient equipment in marketing agricultural products are among the alternatives offered except for compulsory professional knowledge. They have gains such as choosing options, being able to manage, organize and plan agricultural and agricultural / agriculture-based industrial enterprises, to take an active role in the process of establishing agricultural policy, and to use agricultural extension methods and techniques accurately and effectively in transferring information to producers.
